When a planet is in the same point in the zodiac as the Sun, its powers are supercharged by that big hot fireball that is our lifeforce. So what does it mean when the planet of luck gets this extra blast? Will you win the lottery, meet your dream guy, and all your wishes will seamlessly come true? As a Capricorn myself, I’m not here to sugarcoat things, so no, your genie in a bottle is not coming. But that doesn’t mean you can’t experience a little luck.

What is luck anyway? There is a great quote from Branch Rickey that says, “Luck is the residue of design.” Luck is not just something that happens to you. Luck isn’t happenstance. From my professional experience, Jupiter is very effective at expanding what it touches. The thing that I feel people are missing is that growth isn’t always easy. Growth requires us to step out of our comfort zone and do something that scares us. Expansion requires space. I always say that in order for the tree to grow, you have to trim the hedges: How will a new, big, amazing thing come into your life if there isn’t any space for it?

So in service of growth, Jupiter will sometimes bring loss. How will you find your dream partner if you’re stuck in a toxic situationship? How will you start your business if you keep saying yes to everyone’s demands at your day job? How will you take your dream 6-month international backpacking trip if you don’t take a pay cut?

Jupiter will force you to say goodbye to these comfort zones that are actually blockers to your expansion. Jupiter promises growth, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t loss or hardship that comes with it.

So if luck is the residue of design, the design is in your belief in yourself, your curiosity and life philosophy, and your ability to expand your idea of what you ever thought could be possible. The design is the things you let go of and lose along the way. The luck is the growth and joy that results from all of it.

So instead of thinking of July 29th as the luckiest day of the year, let’s think of it as a really big day. It’s a day of growth, possibility, and optimism. And with this Sun-Jupiter conjunction happening in Leo, it’s a day of creativity, play, and leading with the heart. It’s a day of going for your passion and putting yourself out there. It’s a day to remember your gifts, those talents you had as a child, and to make space for them in your life again. Oh, and it’s also the same day as the Full Moon.
